Associate - Katherine Robinson

 

Katherine was born and raised on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.  She is a member of the Tseshaht First Nation and the Nuu-chah-nulth Alliance of Tribes.

Raised with the teachings of the elders and benefits of main stream education and experience Katherine has spent the majority of her life in tourism industry development, community economic development and adult training.

For the past 15 years, Katherine has been employed by the Nuu-chah-nulth Economic Development Corporation as the Community Futures Officer.  In this capacity, she developed, delivered and/or provided:

  • business development training including FirstHost,

  • community capacity building,

  • youth entrepreneurship workshops,

  • fishing/aquaculture and tourism workshops,

  • community information sessions and

  • Board of Director and leadership training.

During her tenure with NEDC she also developed the branding of the Corporation, including: 

  • The corporate colours,

  • promotional material – business cards, brochures, slogan, promotional gifts and corporate events,

  • annual corporate report and

  • bi-weekly newspaper articles in the Nuu-chah-nulth owned HaShilthSa

Katherine believes strongly in, `the ability of the First Nations,' to assume the leadership in their own socio-economic growth as well as giving back to your community.

Her recent affiliations have included:  founding member of the Aboriginal Tourism Association of B.C. (AtBC), a Director on the Council of Tourism Associations (COTA) Board, a Committee member for the Tseshaht Personnel and Economic Development Committees, a member of the North Island College Aboriginal Advisory Committee and President’s Steering Committee, a member of the Port Alberni Heritage Committee’s tourism strategy initiative and a Director of the Port Alberni Cruise Ship Association.

Katherine currently sits as a member of:  the Tseshaht:  Market Board of Directors, Finance Committee and Economic Development Committee and the Alberni Clayoquot Self Employment Committee.
