Associate - Media Profile, Partner

David joined Media Profile after an exciting career as one of Canada's most prominent journalists.  A trained lawyer, who became a business writer, author, and foreign correspondent for The Toronto Star, he is turning his skill and experience to provide a wide range of strategic services to key Media Profile clients as Partner and Director, Client Service.

Prior to joining Media Profile in 1999, David's reporting and columns in The Toronto Star's business section, including his popular Marketing column and his analysis pieces on international trade, put him in touch with key business developments and trends.  The industries he covered as a business reporter include transportation and shipping, aviation, energy and environment, advertising, travel and hospitality, and hemispheric and global trade.  His contacts in the media and business world are extensive.

Before heading up The Star's business section, he was the newspaper's Western Europe Bureau Chief based in London.  For more than three years he kept watch on developments in more than a dozen countries, interviewed world leaders and traveled to Russia and the Baltic States in the aftermath of the failed Soviet coup.  During the 1980s, David covered national and local housing issues for The Star and was an editorial writer at the paper.  He built his formidable reputation as an opinion-leading journalist as The Star's environment reporter, taking time off to write a critically acclaimed book on environmental politics, Silent Earth.

David also has experience as a media consultant and a freelance television producer in London, where among other things he worked on producing a pilot television business news show for CBC.  He started his journalism career at the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, where he worked as a news reporter, part-time editorial writer, and sportswriter.  While at the Record, he won Western Ontario Newspaper Awards in 1981 and 1982.

Married with three children, David is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, the Ontario Bar Admission Course and the University of Toronto.  He also attended Carleton University's School of Journalism and the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.  He plays saxophone, clarinet, guitar, piano and is working on the drums.  His hobbies include photography, canoeing, horseback riding, cycling and skiing.
